Powers of FCC and SC defined in Constitution: law minister

Rawalpindi Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar outlined the constitutional framework defining the powers of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) and the Supreme Court. Tarar emphasized the importance of clear jurisdiction and uniformity in judicial interpretations, stating that the establishment of the FCC under the 27th Constitutional Amendment aimed to achieve this goal.

The minister highlighted the equal representation of provinces in the FCC, stressing that it was crucial due to the diverse social, cultural, and regional circumstances of Pakistan's federating units. He also noted the inclusion of bar associations in the ambit of government support, alongside bar councils, and increased funding for these organizations.

Tarar applauded the Punjab government's grant increase for bar councils and bar associations and underscored his commitment to implementing the Lawyers Protection Act effectively. He addressed the issue of unregulated private law colleges, advocating for improved legal education and a robust assessment system for legal professionals.

Tarar acknowledged the positive impact of women's increasing participation in the legal field and urged lawyers to prioritize professional responsibilities over political differences, emphasizing that safeguarding professional standards and dignity was a collective effort.
