PM calls for thorough readiness for security threats

On Friday, Prime Minister Han Seong-sook emphasized the need for comprehensive preparedness to address security threats and unforeseen circumstances in South Korea. She highlighted the increasingly complex and unpredictable security landscape the nation faces. During a review of the Ulchi civil defense exercise from the previous month, which included approximately 580,000 officials from around 4,000 governmental entities, Han assessed the country's preparedness for war and various contingencies.

The security climate today is "more complex and uncertain than at any other time," according to Han. She warned that the world is still grappling with armed conflicts in multiple regions, necessitating readiness for emerging threats such as drone and cyber attacks. Prime Minister Han argued that for the government to fulfill its duties and safeguard the lives and well-being of citizens during crises, thorough preparations and regular training in peacetime are indispensable.
