PH leaders to meet amid questions over BN’s position in unity government

The PH presidential council, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is set to convene tonight at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya to address recent political developments, including concerns over Barisan Nasional's (BN) continued role in the unity government. The meeting follows Zahid Mahmud, BN chairman and Umno president's comments at the Umno general assembly last week.

He questioned those advocating for the coalition's withdrawal from the unity government, stating that those demanding such a move should either push for the dissolution of Parliament for the 16th general election or table a no-confidence motion against the current administration. This has sparked further debate regarding BN's position in the government and the overall political direction of the unity government.

The decision to hold the meeting was proposed by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke on Monday. He urged Anwar to convene the PH presidential council as soon as possible following his return from overseas official engagements. Loke argued that the meeting should take place after Anwar's return to discuss recent political events and statements that could impact political stability.

Anwar had recently returned to Malaysia after completing a series of official overseas engagements on September 18, 2026.
