Pengampunan Najib: DAP mesyuarat esok tentukan pendirian, tindakan susulan

PAS leader Takiyuddin Hassan expressed confidence that former Prime Minister Najib Razak could still offer ideas, perspectives and experiences for the benefit of the nation, even while serving his remaining sentence at home. The symbolic conditional pardon enables Najib to complete his prison term within the confines of his residence from August 23, 2028, contingent upon a RM50 million fine and adherence to set conditions.

PAS praised Sultan Ibrahim for his decision, expressing gratitude and admiration for Najib's contributions as a leader who drove the nation's development and prosperity to its citizens. The party further prayed for Najib's continued good health during his house arrest, stating his belief that the former Umno president could still contribute ideas, perspectives and experiences for the nation's welfare.

The Federal Territory Compunction Institution (LPWP) had previously granted Najib's request to serve his remaining prison sentence under house arrest by August 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine and compliance with specific conditions. Umno announced today that it would launch a fundraising campaign to assist Najib in paying the fine.

Currently serving a six-year sentence reduced from the original 12-year term in the SRC International case, Najib was incarcerated in August 2022 after the Federal Court rejected his final appeal in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case. In December 2025, Najib was charged with abusing power and converting unlawful funds involving over RM2 billion linked to the 1MDB scandal.

He faces a 15-year prison sentence and a RM11.38 billion fine. Najib is now appealing against the fine.
