“No Double Parking, Inconvenient Remote Start”: Mercedes-Benz Owners Voice Growing Frustration

Mercedes-Benz owners in South Korea are growing increasingly frustrated with certain features of the automaker's latest models, particularly those related to safety and security. The most common complaints involve the inability to double park and the remote start system. In South Korea, parking spaces are often scarce, leading drivers to traditionally leave their vehicles in neutral so that others can push them out of the way when needed.

However, newer Mercedes-Benz models automatically shift into Park when the driver turns off the vehicle or exits it, making conventional double parking nearly impossible. This has left many owners struggling to park their cars in a way that allows for easy movement. Additionally, the remote start function has been criticized for automatically shutting off the engine when the door is opened, requiring the driver to press the brake pedal and restart the vehicle using the start button.

This has diminished the convenience of the feature and left some owners questioning whether the setting can be changed. Both issues are believed to be tied to Mercedes-Benz's safety and security philosophy, with automatic Park engagement intended to prevent unintended vehicle movement and the remote start's engine shut-off designed to reduce the risk of theft or unauthorized operation.

However, some industry experts argue that these safety functions, developed primarily around overseas driving and parking environments, can be perceived as inconvenient in South Korea's unique parking culture. Mercedes-Benz Korea has not yet commented on the complaints.
