Nashville Predators projected lineup, defensive pairings after training camp Day 2

The Nashville Predators have had a hectic start to their training camp, with a new general manager, front office staff, and 55 players vying for 23 roster spots ahead of the season opener on October 1. Coach Andrew Brunette noted on the second day at Ford Ice Center Bellevue, "The first two days, I think we've split things pretty evenly." With just under two weeks to finalize the roster by September 29, the team's lineup could shift considerably in the coming days.

Some players have already secured their spots, such as Filip Forsberg, Steven Stamkos, Ryan O'Reilly, and Roman Josi. New additions Mavrik Bourque, Jack Drury, and Ross Colton are expected to play vital roles, as the team aims to perform well in October. O'Reilly is the starting center alongside Stamkos, while Matthew Wood is set to begin at center with Forsberg. Jonathan Marchessault has been working closely with Bourque, and Drury and Colton will form the fourth line.

The wing situation remains fluid, but if the season began today, the projected forward lineup would consist of Stamkos, O'Reilly, Kemell, Forsberg, Wood, Hoglander, Kerfoot, Marchessault, Colton, and Drury. The wingers are open to movement, particularly Alex Kerfoot and Brady Martin, who were top draft picks.

Defensive pairings have been less clear-cut. Beyond Josi, there is no definite second pairing, and there is more emphasis on size over speed in the group. Ilya Lyubushkin, a new addition, could compete for the third pairing alongside Nick Perbix and Ryan Ufko. Justin Barron, signed for a one-year deal, is likely the seventh defenseman. Brady Skjei, Roman Josi, Nicolas Hague, Ryan Ufko, and Adam Wilsby complete the initial defensive pairing.
