Nashik: NMC Plans ₹431.29 Crore Sewerage Upgrade In CIDCO Ahead Of Kumbh

In anticipation of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to overhaul the sewerage system in the CIDCO area. A detailed project report (DPR) valued at ₹431.29 crore has been prepared, which involves replacing outdated and insufficient sewerage lines across 12 sectors within CIDCO and surrounding regions with a modern network. The proposal awaits approval from the General Body.

The current underground sewerage system in CIDCO was built during the 1970s and 1980s. Over time, single-story houses have transformed into multi-story buildings, leading to a significant population surge. Nashik's present populace is around 5.54 lakh, and this number is expected to surge to 12.80 lakh by 2055. This growth places immense pressure on the existing sewerage lines, which are now operating beyond their intended capacity, resulting in frequent problems like blocked drains and sewage spilling onto roads.

With an anticipated increase in sewage volume from 66 MLD (million liters per day) to 154 MLD, the NMC has designed the project to accommodate this future expansion. The project encompasses laying new sewerage lines, spanning about 266.4 km, with diameters ranging from 200 mm to 1,000 mm. Existing pipelines will either be reconstructed or replaced as necessary.

The project also involves reinforcing roads that were dug up for laying the sewerage and water supply lines. The sewage generated will be conveyed to the Agartakali Sewage Treatment Plant via pumping stations located at Untwadi and Agartakali.

The main goal of this endeavor is to intercept 100% of the sewage that would otherwise flow into the Godavari River and its tributaries, diverting it instead to the treatment plant.
