Mumbai: Kandivali's Shatabdi Hospital Becomes First BMC General Hospital To Receive NABH Accreditation

Mumbai's Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali has become the first general hospital under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to receive accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). The recognition, achieved after a preparatory period beginning in 2025, is anticipated to enhance patient safety, care quality, infection control, medication management, clinical practices, documentation, and grievance redressal. NABH accreditation mandates adherence to standardized procedures and protocols in these areas.

Patients can expect more systematic healthcare delivery, improved infection control, better documentation, communication, standardized clinical protocols, enhanced patient rights, and increased transparency from the hospital. Dr Ajay Gupta, Hospital Superintendent, emphasized that achieving accreditation in a short time was a significant milestone that highlighted the dedication and teamwork of the entire staff, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, administrators, technicians, housekeeping personnel, and all supporting departments.

For the BMC, this achievement is particularly noteworthy since previous attempts to secure NABH accreditation for major civic hospitals such as KEM, Sion, and Nair hospitals were unsuccessful. While Nair Dental Hospital and some BMC medical colleges have previously earned NABH accreditation, Shatabdi is the first general hospital providing comprehensive medical services to receive this recognition.

The hospital administration expressed gratitude to Union Minister and local MP Piyush Goyal, municipal leadership, senior officials, and other stakeholders for their support. Hospital Superintendent Dr Ajay Gupta emphasized that NABH accreditation should be viewed as a new beginning rather than an endpoint. He stated that it represents a recognition of the collective effort and a promise to continuously improve the standard of patient care, and that the achievement belongs to everyone at the hospital.
