Multinational maritime coalition moves toward operational deployment with 41 countries

In Jeddah, the Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition has advanced towards operational deployment, having attained Initial Operational Capability, following a meeting of representatives from 41 nations. The coalition convened its fourth planning meeting at the Western Fleet Command, assembling 154 naval commanders, planners, ambassadors, and European Union representatives. This development signifies the coalition's progression from its establishment phase to active operations.

With the attainment of Initial Operational Capability, the coalition is now concentrating on integrating the capabilities of participating countries, preparing for operational execution, and establishing a physical presence in its maritime area of operations. The participating countries have reviewed advancements since the last planning phase and developments concerning nations that have formally joined the coalition, with several states signing the coalition's charter and joint statement.

Currently, the coalition comprises 28 liaison officers, while the participating nations are working to determine their specific contributions to facilitate coordinated and integrated multinational defensive operations.

The fourth planning meeting emphasized bolstering operational readiness, preparing participating capabilities for unified command, and eventually deploying them to commence missions within the coalition's area of responsibility. The coalition emphasized that safeguarding freedom of navigation and maritime routes and straits is a shared international concern necessitating effective partnerships, diverse capabilities, and a collective response.

Its mission centers on promoting maritime navigation's security and safety in line with international law through a multinational operational framework anchored in unified command, integrated capabilities, information sharing, and coordinated efforts to address threats to maritime navigation.
