Minister inspects Yettinahole project works, assures completion in two months

On Thursday, Water Resources Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy visited the Yettinahole Drinking Water Project in Hassan district to confirm the government's commitment to completing the project in two months. Throughout the day, he inspected the progress at various sites in Arasikere, Belur, and Sakleshpur taluks. At Sakleshpur, the Minister assessed the efficiency of the pumping units, which collect water from eight weirs and transport it to a delivery chamber.

The Yettinahole project aims to divert river water from the west-flowing Netravati river to address water shortages in seven drought-stricken districts. It plans to extract 24.01 tmc (thousand million cubic feet) of water during the monsoon season from tributaries of the Netravati river, including Yettinahole, Kadumanehole, Kerihole, and Hongadahalla. The project involves filling 527 tanks, benefiting over 75 lakh people in 6,657 villages and 38 towns.

During his inspection, the Minister visited the Nayakanakere Kavalu area in Arasikere taluk to review canal formation progress and examined the canal construction site in Idahalli Kaval, Belur taluk. He instructed the engineers of Visvesvaraya Jala Nigam Limited and contractors to adhere to the schedule and ensure proper water flow.

Additionally, the Minister directed Hassan district administration officers to compensate land losers affected by the project. Accompanied by Excise Minister K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, legislators, and senior district administration officials, the Minister ensured the project's timely completion.
