Militias set houses ablaze as troops repel attack in Plateau

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, suspected militias attacked the Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, only to be repelled by troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP. The conflict unfolded around 4:45pm when the troops, alerted to the militia's approach, moved to intercept the attackers. Upon sighting the security personnel, the assailants opened fire, prompting the troops to engage them immediately.

The troops successfully forced the attackers to retreat into the forest, but not before allegedly setting some houses on the outskirts of the community ablaze during their withdrawal. Subsequently, troops cleared the area and returned to base, while efforts were made to assess the extent of fire damage. Security personnel continued vigilant monitoring as investigations progressed and attempts were made to track down the fleeing assailants.
