Milei insulta a los periodistas tras conocerse que el PIB argentino se contrajo en el segundo trimestre

Argentina's President Javier Milei has insulted journalists after learning that the country's GDP contracted by 0.6% in the second quarter due to a decline in consumption and investment. Milei tweeted in all caps, "MERCENARY JOURNALISTS, AFTER COMPLAINING WHEN I TELL THEM THEY ARE HUMAN MERCENARY SMOKES, THEY ARE REPUGNANT TRASH."

He made these remarks shortly after the official data revealed a record-high informal labor rate of 45%, which means 6.1 million people in Argentina are working without contracts and social protection. Meanwhile, Milei announced his plan to replace civil workers in the presidential residence with military personnel to enhance security and streamline internal processes.

The news of Milei's decision and the economic data were widely reported by Argentine media. The Association of Argentine Journalism Entities (ADEPA) criticized Milei's constant attacks and insults towards journalists, observing that such behavior creates a contagious negative effect on society. The Asociación de Trabajadores del Estado (ATE), Argentina's main public-sector union, requested the government to provide information about the president's physical and mental health, given statements from mental health professionals who claim Milei exhibits traits consistent with a dangerous personality.
