Mets’ Jared Young carted off field after collision with teammate Nolan McLean

Mets first baseman Jared Young was taken off the field in the sixth inning of a game against the Phillies on Thursday night. The incident occurred when pitcher Nolan McLean accidentally struck Young on the head while both players vied for Justin Crawford's slow grounder. Young was subsequently carted away and transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

Despite having sensation in his limbs, Young was taken to a facility for examination. With the Phillies leading 1-0 at the time, McLean went to first base on contact, while Young moved back towards the bag. The two players briefly paused before Young reached for the ball with his right hand, attempting to maintain contact with the base.

McLean continued running once he resumed motion, and Young's head collided with McLean's, tripping as Crawford crossed the bag. Young fell face-first to the ground and lay motionless. Team manager Andy Green and an athletic trainer immediately rushed out from the dugout, and a cart was called for Young's transport. McLean put his hands on his knees and bent down as his teammates gathered near Young.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez seemed to be praying, while members of both teams gathered on the dugout sidelines. Young was immobilized on the cart and flashed a thumbs up before the cart disappeared behind left-center field. The 31-year-old first baseman, who is in his first full big league season, had previously established himself as a regular first baseman, batting .266 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs in 103 games. He had missed six weeks due to a left knee injury.
