Mbappe leaves Nike, signs with On as it forays into soccer

Kylian Mbappé, the renowned French soccer player, has severed ties with Nike and joined Swiss sportswear company On. On, led by a former French player Thierry Henry, plans to launch its inaugural football boots in 2027.

The company's shares on the U.S. market surged by 5% in premarket trading following Mbappé's endorsement. On's strategy lies in the American market, which contributes to over half of its revenue. The company has focused on full-price sales but has encountered difficulties in the region due to economic uncertainty. Mbappé's departure from Nike, a partnership spanning two decades, follows Nike's recent loss of World Cup winner Lamine Yamal to Adidas.

Yamal praised Mbappé as his "only rival for Ballon d’Or." Nike expressed pride in their collaboration, both on and off the pitch, and wished Mbappé continued success in his future endeavors. The soccer star himself reflected on his career change, stating that he now finds himself among innovators who share his aspirations.
