Lee's approval rating falls to new low of 37 pct: poll

President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has plummeted to a new low of 37%, according to a recent poll conducted by Gallup Korea. This marks a steady decline for the past four consecutive weeks since his inauguration in June of the previous year. The survey, which polled 1,002 individuals aged 18 and above between Tuesday and Thursday, revealed that Lee's positive assessment of his performance dropped by 1 percentage point compared to the previous week.

However, his disapproval rating surged by 5 percentage points, reaching an alarming 56%, which is 19 percentage points higher than his approval rating. This alarming rise in disapproval marks the highest level since Lee assumed office.

When asked to provide reasons for their negative assessment of Lee's performance, 20% of respondents cited his real estate policies, while 16% pointed to personnel appointments, and 9% highlighted economic and livelihood issues. It is worth noting that real estate issues have been the primary concern for negative evaluations since late July, while personnel appointments have been the second most cited reason following recent Cabinet nominations.

Lee's nominations for the positions of justice minister and gender equality minister have also faced significant backlash in recent weeks. Both nominees have been embroiled in controversies that have further fueled public discontent.
