Lee reaffirms commitment to establishing peace regime on Korean Peninsula

U.S. Ambassador to Korea Michelle Steel emphasized the crucial role of the Korea-U.S. alliance as the foundation of peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in the broader Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at a forum in Seoul, Steel highlighted that this bilateral alliance has endured for over seven decades, stemming from the sacrifices made during the 1950-53 Korean War.

The U.S.-Republic of Korea alliance, as Steel referred to it, serves as the linchpin of tranquility on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the Indo-Pacific.

According to Steel, the mutual defense treaty between the two nations represents an unbreakable bond. She underscored that the alliance extends beyond a mere government agreement; it embodies a shared human story. Steel stressed that both Seoul and Washington share a common narrative, forged in war and upheld by American and Korean soldiers who defended freedom side by side during the Korean War.

Steel also pointed out that Korea has emerged as a global leader in various domains, including technology, culture, manufacturing, and democracy. This progress further underscores the significance of the Korea-U.S. alliance in fostering regional stability and prosperity.
