Lagos warns motorists against fake traffic fine messages

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has cautioned motorists and the general public against deceptive text messages and malicious links that claim to reveal traffic violations. These messages are fraudulent ploys aimed at deceiving motorists and stealing personal and financial data. In a recent advisory posted on the ministry's X account, officials urged motorists to refrain from clicking on unverified links, disclosing personal information, or making payments through third-party platforms.

The ministry warned that these fraudulent messages and websites might appear to provide motorists with the chance to pay alleged traffic fines, but are actually designed to extract confidential information from unsuspecting targets. The ministry also cautioned motorists against platforms offering reduced prices on traffic penalties.

According to the ministry, Lagos State does not provide any discounts on traffic penalties across its platforms, and all official fines remain fixed. Motorists were told to confirm the authenticity of traffic tickets and check their vehicle status only through the state’s authorized platforms, namely payvis.ng and tms.lagosstate.gov.ng.

The public was urged to be vigilant when receiving unsolicited messages about traffic violations and to steer clear of making payments or sharing personal and banking details through suspicious links. This warning comes as concerns grow over fraudulent online platforms preying on motorists through fake traffic offence notices and payment demands.
