Lagarde leaves her early exit from the ECB open: "We'll see"

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), has left open the possibility of leaving her position before her term ends in October 2027. In an interview with Irish public broadcaster RTE in Dublin, Lagarde responded to questions about a potential early departure with "we'll see". She stated that if she were to leave, it would be handled professionally.

Lagarde also said she had not discussed the matter with eurozone finance ministers. There are rumors that Klaas Knot could succeed Lagarde, with France potentially backing him in exchange for a French candidate as the ECB's chief economist, a position currently held by Ireland's Philip Lane.
