Kefas postpones Taraba World Tourism Day celebration over communal crisis

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has put off the World Tourism Day celebration initially planned for September 27, 2026, in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government Area. This decision came after a recent communal disturbance in Mbara Village, Mbamnga District, which left lives lost and property destroyed. The postponement was announced in a statement by the Chief Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps.

The move was made in solidarity with families who suffered losses and other victims, and it aligns with the governor's commitment to peace and opposition to violence in the state. Kefas instructed security forces to restore order in the affected communities, identify and prosecute those responsible for the violence. He also urged stakeholders to foster dialogue and work with security agencies to prevent further escalation.

Residents were advised to stay calm and vigilant, reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest security unit.
