Karachi Industrial Park Plan Nears Final Approval

The federal government is on the verge of finalizing the incentives and land lease model for the Karachi Industrial Park, as it strives to boost industrial investment and draw export-focused businesses. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema led a meeting on Thursday to assess the progress of the industrial park's development, with the proposed land lease model and incentive structure set to be finalized ahead of its anticipated early launch.

Cheema affirmed the government's dedication to hastening the Karachi Industrial Park's development and putting industrial units into operation as swiftly as possible. He emphasized that the framework should give precedence to export-oriented industries, with land allocation and incentives contingent upon clearly defined export commitments.

This, Cheema explained, would ensure the project contributes to export growth. Officials deliberated on various development and investment models, encompassing a proposed land lease package providing competitive incentives to lure industrial investment while tying land allocation and concessions to export commitments. Cheema stated that the Karachi Industrial Park's development should bolster broader economic objectives, notably higher exports, industrialization, and the productive utilization of available land.

Officials also updated Cheema on proposals to prioritize industrial units with robust export potential, particularly enterprises anticipated to export over 50 percent of their production. The framework will concentrate on facilitating industries whose output is predominantly export-oriented, as per the briefing.
