Jury convicts woman of negligent homicide in death of reporter covering Super Bowl in New Orleans

In New Orleans, a Louisiana jury convicted a woman of negligent homicide for the death of a Telemundo reporter covering the Super Bowl. Danette Colbert, 49, was also found guilty of racketeering. Her accomplice, Rickey White, received the same conviction. The two had a criminal enterprise that targeted victims in the city's French Quarter, drugging them and stealing their money.

Colbert and White preyed on individuals in the French Quarter, using drugs to incapacitate them and stealing their belongings. Colbert's arrest record included allegations of drugging men and theft. In court, prosecutors presented text messages between the trio discussing their methods. White was not found guilty of negligent homicide.

Colbert faces a maximum 10-year sentence, while White could face up to 50 years for racketeering. The victims, including 27-year-old Telemundo reporter Adan Manzano, died from a combination of alcohol and Xanax. Manzano's family was not present at the trial. The two convicted individuals are scheduled to be sentenced in late September.
