Jadavpur University Scholars Flag PhD, Fellowship Risks Over West Bengal Faculty Transfer Bill, Seek Governor Ravi's Intervention

Kolkata - The Research Scholars Association (JURSA) at Jadavpur University has expressed worry over a bill passed by the West Bengal Assembly that allows for inter-university transfer of teaching faculty. In a letter to West Bengal Governor R N Ravi, the association argued that such transfers could jeopardize PhD supervision, fellowships, and ongoing research.

The UGC regulations state that a research scholar must be supervised by a faculty member enrolled at the same institution. If a supervising faculty member is transferred, the scholars could lose their designated supervisors and the validity of their PhD work could be called into question. The association also raised concerns about fellowships, logistical issues, and the potential discouragement of prospective scholars from joining universities in West Bengal. They have requested an audience with the Governor to discuss their concerns.
