‘It is not looking accidental’ — Aisha Yesufu on death of Niger miners in NSCDC custody

Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has expressed grave concerns over the recent deaths of approximately 40 suspected illegal miners who were reportedly in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State. The activist questioned the circumstances surrounding their demise in a social media post, stating, "How did you arrest young people mining and almost 40 die in your custody?

How?!" The incident has left Yesufu perplexed, as she questioned how a group of individuals arrested for illegal mining could perish in government custody.

Moreover, Yesufu pointed out that survivors' accounts have raised doubts about the authenticity of the deaths, implying that they might not have been accidental. She stated, "From what survivors are recounting, it is not looking accidental!" This revelation has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation, as the perpetrators and circumstances behind the incident remain unclear.

In her critique, Yesufu directed her anger towards the Nigerian government, claiming that it has a tendency to radicalize its citizens against each other. She said, "Nigeria is the one that radicalizes its citizens against itself!"
