Iowa football LB Cam Buffington named Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week

Iowa third-year linebacker Cam Buffington has earned the Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week honor for Week 2, following an impressive performance against the Iowa State Cyclones. In the 16-13 Cy-Hawk win, Buffington showcased his defensive skills by racking up a game-high 15 tackles, including nine solo, and played a key role in slowing down quarterback Jaylen Raynor, who was contained to just 18 rushing yards.

The Winfield, Iowa native has now become the leader in solo tackles for the Big Ten. The Lott IMPACT Trophy, awarded annually to the best defensive player in college football, takes into account both on-field performance and the character of the player. If Buffington continues to perform at this level, he stands a strong chance of being a finalist for the prestigious award at the end of the season. Iowa's last finalist for the award was linebacker Josey Jewell, who won it in 2017.
