Interpol has a new tool to track down loot that criminals are stashing away around the world

Interpol is introducing a new tool to assist police in locating and seizing hidden criminal assets, according to a report by the Associated Press. The "Silver Notice" will be used by the policing organization's 196 member countries to share information and aid one another in the hunt for illicit wealth, which typically remains undetected.

Interpol's Director of Task Force Coordination, Nicholas Court, stated that since the trial of the tool in January 2025, 82 countries have recovered at least €36 million ($41 million) in criminal assets. The system allows law enforcement officials to inform the global community about a specific criminal's assets, whether they are cash, cryptocurrency, cars, real estate, or other possessions.

In a recent example, Italy requested the Silver Notice to track assets belonging to a mafia member, and Brazil quickly responded by identifying numerous properties and livestock associated with the criminal. Interpol expects the tool to be widely adopted by member nations at its general assembly in November, with the next major version being the "Red Notice," which is already in use for apprehending individuals suspected of major crimes.
