Indian gymnast and coach allotted same room at 2026 Asian Games accommodation as mismanagement continues

Dubai: Indian gymnast Pranati Nayak and her coach Ashok Mishra found themselves in an unexpected accommodation predicament at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Despite being assigned same room aboard a cruise ship, the error was promptly addressed and both were moved to separate rooms around 1:30am. However, Mishra encountered further complications when he couldn't locate his room key.

Upon inquiry, the hotel staff revealed a clerical error - the name 'Ashok' was missing an 'I' from the official records. Mishra had to verify and correct his accreditation and booking details, which took an additional 45 minutes. The gymnast, who is India's sole representative in gymnastics at the Games, was not physically affected by the mix-up but is focused on her event.

The incident is among several issues faced by Indian athletes at the Asian Games, with others stranded after arriving in Nagoya, including competitors from Vietnam, China, South Korea and Thailand. Despite these challenges, all attention now shifts towards the upcoming competitions as the Asian Games continue.
