The ICC's media rights tender is currently on hold as the world body waits for the BCCI to release its own IPL rights tender, which remains pending. Industry executives are urging the BCCI to consider models similar to those of Netflix, YouTube and Amazon for its IPL rights, rather than relying solely on traditional broadcasters.

The ICC's media rights working group, headed by ECB chief Richard Thompson, was established to explore ways to maximize the value of the ICC's 2028-31 media rights cycle, but it has been delayed due to the BCCI's lack of action on the IPL rights tender. The BCCI's delay in appointing a financial advisor for the IPL rights tender, which was not the case in 2022 when KPMG was hired, has left broadcasters in limbo and the industry calling for the inclusion of streaming platforms like Netflix, YouTube and Amazon in the conversation on platform strategy.
