Hyrox athlete apologises, regrets not stepping off track after having faecal incontinence

Australian fitness competitor Joanna Wietrzyk, who won a Hyrox event in China while visibly soiling herself, has issued an apology and forfeited her victory. The incident, which occurred during a race in Beijing, sparked widespread outrage among spectators, event organizers, and fellow athletes. Footage showed Wietrzyk completing intense workouts and using shared competition equipment, despite having fecal matter on her legs.

This led to complaints that the track was contaminated and some athletes even slipped on the faeces. Wietrzyk acknowledged during a subsequent Instagram post that she made a mistake by continuing the race and expressed deep regret for the discomfort and disruption caused. She noted that she felt healthy before the start but emphasized that the experience reminded her there is more to life than racing.

As a result, Wietrzyk has stepped away from the sport temporarily to focus on her health and family. Hyrox, the fitness racing brand that organizes the event, also issued a formal apology and admitted to failing to handle the situation in real time. The company updated its regulations to prevent similar incidents in future races, implementing immediate rule changes across all global events.
