Hannah says viral house arrest order is fake

Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh has denounced the circulation of a fabricated document indicating her authorization for house arrest. Yeoh warned the public not to disseminate the falsified order, which bears her purported signature. In a Facebook post, she clarified that the Federal Territories Pardons Board (FTPB) had not convened to discuss the matter. She urged the public not to share the fake document and mentioned that her press secretary had filed a report with the relevant authorities.

The dubious document surfaced in response to a report suggesting that the FTPB would convene today to deliberate on former Prime Minister Najib Razak's application for a pardon. The meeting, reported by the Straits Times, would occur just a week after the board previously deferred Najib's application. It was speculated that the September 11 FTPB meeting was intended to address Najib's pardon request, along with other matters.

Najib, 73, was convicted six years ago for embezzlement of RM42 million from SRC International funds. Initially sentenced to 12 years in prison and a RM210 million fine, the FTPB later reduced his sentence to six years and RM50 million. He has been incarcerated at Kajang prison since August 2022. In December 2025, he was convicted of abuse of power and money laundering involving over RM2 billion related to the 1MDB scandal. Najib is currently appealing his latest conviction.
