Hadi vows to produce evidence in court over US topple-BN claim

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has pledged to present evidence in court to back his claim that the United States attempted to topple the Barisan Nasional government in 2014. The Marang MP informed the media that he had provided a police statement around an hour long at PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur regarding the allegation, which the U.S. Embassy has refuted.

During his concluding address at the 72nd PAS Annual Muktamar in Kota Bharu on September 5, Hadi alleged that several PAS leaders met with U.S. Embassy representatives during former President Barack Obama's visit to Malaysia in 2014. He claimed the U.S. offered assistance to destabilize the government and that a U.S. official later asked him to name a candidate for prime minister.

The U.S. Embassy denied these claims, stating they were false. Police initiated an investigation following 12 reports, recording statements from 12 witnesses and including Hadi's statement in the ongoing inquiry. They are probing under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, but no decision on prosecution has been made.

Hadi's political secretary, Syahir Sulaiman, stated that the inquiry is still active with more witnesses anticipated.
