Growing injury list becoming a problem for India, admits Gautam Gambhir

India's cricket team faced a setback following a growing list of injuries, acknowledged by captain Gautam Gambhir in a post-match press conference. The team secured a 3-0 sweep of the T20I series against Afghanistan, but the injury to Varun Chakaravarthy raised concerns. Varun, who had recently returned from a hamstring injury, suffered sudden abdominal discomfort during the first T20I and was subsequently ruled out of the series and the Asian Games.

The list of injured players also includes Hardik Pandya, Harshit Rana, Sai Sudharsan, Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar. With crucial Test series against New Zealand and Australia approaching, and the 2027 ODI World Cup looming, the growing injury list has become a significant challenge for India. Gambhir admitted that recurrent injuries are problematic, especially in Test and ODI cricket, and emphasized the need for a consistent, top-performing team, particularly for young captain Shubman.
