Gemini’s rough patch with smart home controls has spread to Android Auto

This follows a recent problem on Wear OS, which Google claimed to have resolved. The cause of the Android Auto issue remains unclear; however, Google has been contacted for comment.

Wear OS users had been reporting that Gemini would falsely claim to have controlled lights, air conditioning units, and other devices when no action was actually taken. Google addressed this issue, stating that it had been fixed. Yet, some Android Auto users are now encountering similar problems, where Gemini unexpectedly refuses to control their smart home devices despite the commands working previously.

A user shared their experience on the r/AndroidAuto subreddit. They reported that Gemini had stopped executing commands like turning on the air conditioning. Instead, the system now responds that it "cannot control smart home devices through Google Maps while driving." The user noted that the feature had been functioning correctly for months before this change occurred.
