Gabon signs agreement with Nigeria’s Oilserv to develop two hydrocarbon blocks

The Gabonese government has entered into an agreement with Nigerian energy infrastructure firm Oilserv to develop and commercialize hydrocarbon reserves in two blocks within the country. Oilserv announced the development on its website. The agreement, detailed in a protocol, covers the DEF-3 and D4-5 blocks, along with provisions for gas transportation, compression, and treatment infrastructure to support power generation and industrial activities in Gabon.

The deal was signed by Gabon's Minister of Petroleum and Gas, Clotaire Kondja, representing the Gabonese State, and Oilserv's Chairman and Group CEO, Emeka Okwuosa. The agreement sets the groundwork for developing and commercializing hydrocarbon reserves in the two blocks, including the gas infrastructure necessary to support thermal power generation and industrial activities in Gabon.

This follows a trend of Nigerian energy companies venturing into oil and gas projects across various African nations, as seen with Dangote's 650,000 barrels per day refinery in Lagos. Furthermore, construction of a Kenyan refinery by Dangote is set to commence by the end of September, with completion projected within three years.

The Oilserv-Gabon agreement follows similar initiatives where Nigerian companies have partnered with African governments to develop petroleum resources. These deals vary in scale and the specific assets involved.
