Five cops among 16 martyred in Kohat bomb blast: police

On Friday, a bomb blast in Kohat killed at least 16 people, including five police officials and 11 civilians. The attack occurred at the Kohat Police Lines area, where a terrorist detonated explosives near the Special Branch building after an initial blast. Joint efforts from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and Counter-Terrorism Department swiftly responded to the situation, surrounding the area and engaging the attackers, reportedly belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij.

Security forces reported eliminating one terrorist sniper during the ongoing operation. Rescue teams have begun transferring the deceased and injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, while the area remains cordoned off by police and security forces. Rescue 1122 teams, with over 45 personnel and 14 ambulances, are actively participating in search and rescue efforts at the scene.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed sorrow for the innocent victims and directed authorities to provide immediate medical aid to the injured. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the explosion and sought a report on the cause and nature of the blast, emphasizing the need for swift relief and rescue operations. Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, has directed relevant authorities to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured.

The police chief affirmed the KP Police's unwavering resolve against terrorism and vowed that the martyrs' blood would not be in vain, with terrorists and their supporters facing severe consequences.
