Fighting uproots 112,000 in Yemen as thousands flee to Djibouti, UN says

Fighting in Yemen has displaced over 112,000 people, according to the United Nations, with nearly 3,000 more fleeing to Djibouti across the Red Sea. Last week, the Houthi forces seized control of Yemen's Red Sea coastline, solidifying their grip on the Bab al-Mandab strait. This strategic waterway serves as a crucial shipping route connecting Europe, Asia, and the Suez Canal.

The ongoing conflict between the Houthis and government forces loyal to Aden has triggered a humanitarian crisis, leaving civilians displaced both within Yemen and seeking refuge across the dangerous sea. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has documented more than 112,000 internally displaced individuals since the fighting began, with Abdusattor Esov, the agency's representative in Yemen, reporting that the majority of these displacements have occurred over the past two weeks, primarily along the west coast and in Taiz and Lahj provinces.
