Exclusive Preview: The Upcoming Halo Full-Cast Audiobook Features the Original Voices of Master Chief and Cortana

Halo: The Fall of Reach was first published in 2001, serving as the official prequel to the popular Halo video game series. Written by Eric Nylund, the novel chronicles the origins of Master Chief and the events that led to the Halo: Combat Evolved storyline. Over the course of 25 years, the book has undergone multiple revisions and editions.

Now, for the very first time, Halo: The Fall of Reach is being transformed into a full-cast audiobook produced by Simon & Schuster Audio. To sample the audio experience, IGN has shared an exclusive clip. The audiobook is scheduled to hit shelves on November 10, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the Halo franchise.

Steve Downes and Jen Taylor, who originally voiced Master Chief and Cortana in the video games, are set to reprise their roles in the audiobook adaptation. Additionally, the audiobook will feature an immersive sound design that includes elements like the Halo theme song and the distinctive cries of Grunts as they flee in terror.

According to the publisher, the story takes place in the 26th century, where humanity has expanded to hundreds of planets under the control of the United Earth Government and the United Nations Space Command. As tensions rise and colonial insurrections threaten to ignite a galaxy-wide conflict, Dr. Catherine Halsey develops a top-secret program that may hold the key to ending the strife.

A six-year-old boy named John is among the subjects of this experiment, and Halsey could never anticipate that he would become humanity's ultimate savior against the looming threat of the Covenant, a theocratic military alliance of alien races.
