Dr Reddy’s to distribute Qdenga, India’s first dengue vaccine

India's first approved dengue vaccine, Qdenga, is set to be distributed by Dr Reddy's Laboratories in the private market starting from the first half of 2027. This announcement comes after Takeda Pharmaceutical Company and Dr Reddy's Laboratories reached an exclusive collaboration agreement, with Dr Reddy's taking on the responsibility of promoting and distributing the vaccine across India's private sector for both pediatric and adult populations.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) had granted Qdenga marketing authorization to individuals aged 4 to 60 years in July 2026. The vaccine is significant due to its ability to protect against all four dengue virus serotypes - DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4, which are prevalent across multiple regions in India.

Clinical trials have shown an efficacy rate of 61.2% against virologically confirmed dengue and 84.1% against dengue-related hospitalization at 4.5 years after vaccination. The vaccine is administered as a two-dose regimen, with each dose being 0.5 mL and being given subcutaneously, three months apart. The two doses are given three months apart.

Qdenga is expected to be available in India after the completion of required processes such as obtaining Registration Certificate and Import Licence, quality-release processes, and commercial distribution.
