Dolphins coordinator has no excuses for poor special teams play

The Miami Dolphins' special teams performance was poor in Week 1, missing a field goal and putting their defense in bad field position due to terrible kick coverage, according to special teams coordinator Chris Tabor. Tabor emphasized the need for improvement and blamed himself for the mistakes: "We've got to play better, got to coach better, and that starts with me."

He acknowledged the unit's potential, citing the performance of returners Deebo Samuel and others, but stressed that the team must address the issues to become watchable. Tabor ruled out making excuses, stating, "We're not in the excuse business, we're in the production business and we got to get better." The Dolphins have a challenging schedule and thin roster, making it difficult to afford such mistakes. They expect improvements heading into Week 2, particularly in stopping Samuel and Jacob Cowing.
