Do you have the capacity to investigate narcotic seizure? – Majority questions Minority’s recall of Parliament

Deputy Majority Whip Richard Acheampong has raised questions about the Minority's ability to independently investigate recent narcotics seizures in Ghana following their request for the recall of Parliament. While the Minority asserts its constitutional right to request an extraordinary sitting, Acheampong emphasized that Parliament must consider the financial implications and effectiveness of such a recall.

The Minority, led by First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu, invoked Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 53 of Parliament’s Standing Orders to seek the recall after securing 15% of MPs. Acheampong acknowledged the Minority's right to initiate the recall but questioned the rationale behind it, given that the government had already taken steps to address the issue.

He emphasized the importance of reasonableness in governmental actions and inquired about the Minority's capacity to conduct the investigation given their lack of expertise in narcotics. Acheampong also pointed out that Parliament recently underwent a recall for crucial business and was expected to reconvene the following month, questioning whether the Minority had considered the financial costs of another recall.
