DCDT upbeat after entities show recovery signs

The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) has expressed optimism following the recovery of three of its entities, following positive audit outcomes. Among these entities, South African Post Office (SAPO) achieved an unqualified audit opinion for the first time in six years. The DCDT, which oversees 11 state-owned enterprises, has been focused on enhancing governance and audit standards across its portfolio.

Among the entities acknowledged for their commendable financial management and performance during the 2025/26 financial year are Sentech, the Film and Publication Board (FPB), and NEMISA. According to the DCDT, these achievements are the result of dedicated efforts from the boards, executive management, and employees of FPB, Sentech, SAPO, and NEMISA.

The DCDT emphasizes that while these audit outcomes are significant, they serve as a foundation for well-governed institutions that can effectively fulfill their mandates. To tackle governance instability, audit issues, and recurring findings, the DCDT has closely monitored audit action plans, strengthened oversight and accountability structures, and implemented effective internal controls.

These measures are part of the department's overall goal to develop high-performing and well-governed ICT public entities that can contribute to South Africa's digital transformation agenda.

The DCDT plans to continue collaborating closely with the leadership and boards of all its entities to address any remaining governance and audit concerns. The department's aim is not merely to react to audit findings, but to foster an environment within the portfolio where good governance, accountability, and sound financial management are ingrained in the everyday culture.
