DAP will be affected by Najib pardon decision, says KJ

Former DAP deputy secretary-general Khairy Jamaluddin stated on his podcast that the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Najib Razak will impact the Pakatan Harapan government, with DAP being a particularly significant party to consider. While DAP had previously designated Najib's release as a "red line" for the party, Jamaluddin noted that they possess a "get-out clause," enabling them to claim that the decision holds no connection to them.

Najib, 73, has been serving a six-year sentence in Kajang prison under house arrest following a February 2024 halving of his original 12-year sentence and reduced fine. DAP's central executive committee is scheduled to convene tomorrow to deliberate the party's stance and forthcoming actions in response to Najib's conditional pardon.

During this meeting, DAP's secretary-general Loke Siew Fook emphasized the party's unwavering commitment to justice and accountability concerning the 1MDB scandal, which SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary, is directly associated with. Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh also reportedly voiced a position in line with the party's principles when fulfilling her duties on the Federal Territories Pardons Board.

Last week, Kuala Lumpur DAP treasurer Ben Fong urged DAP members within the Cabinet to resign should Najib be pardoned, asserting that it would be "untenable" for DAP to maintain its government position if the former Pekan MP is released.
