CPP urges Ghanaians to revive Nkrumah’s vision of self-reliance and industrialisation

The General Secretary of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Harold Stephen Ato Eshun, has urged Ghanaians to recommit to Dr Kwame Nkrumah's vision of self-reliance, industrialization, and African unity. This call comes ahead of Nkrumah's 117th birthday on September 21st. Eshun argued that the country should evaluate its resource management and economic future in light of persistent issues such as unemployment, corruption, and economic difficulties.

He emphasized that Nkrumah's vision extended beyond Ghana's independence from colonial rule, aiming at the political and economic emancipation of Africa as a whole. Quoting the late leader, Eshun stated, "Our independence is meaningless unless linked up with the total liberation of Africa." He stressed that economic independence is crucial for Africa's vulnerability reduction.

Nkrumah, Eshun noted, founded the CPP in 1949, which later won the 1951 elections leading to Ghana's independence on March 6, 1957. The CPP's legacy, according to Eshun, continues to influence national discussions on self-determination and development. He highlighted education as a key element of Nkrumah's agenda for national transformation.

Eshun encouraged young Ghanaians to pursue entrepreneurship and technological advancements to advance Nkrumah's vision. He also called on journalists, artists, and creative practitioners to tell Ghanaian stories internationally. Commemorating Nkrumah's 117th birthday, Eshun posed three questions: "What was his picture of Ghana? What did he leave behind?

What will we do with it?" He stressed that these answers should translate into practical steps towards a self-reliant, united Ghana.
