Conditions for Najib’s house arrest to reflect govt’s resolve to fight corruption and abuse of power — Hafiz Hassan

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted a conditional royal pardon to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028. The conditions of this pardon include Najib remaining a prisoner, serving his sentence subject to strict compliance with the statutory terms attached to the pardon. If he breaches any of these conditions, the pardon will be revoked and he will return to prison immediately.

The statutory terms state that Najib must attend any counseling, therapy, tests, or activities required for rehabilitation and reintegration imposed by the prison authorities, report for urine or hair testing at any time and place specified, remain at his residence or an alternative location at specified times, allow prison authorities to monitor his compliance and reintegration efforts, abstain from consuming controlled or psychoactive substances, not possess any drugs or intoxicants, wear an electronic monitoring device, comply with electronic monitoring requirements, and not tamper with or obstruct monitoring devices.

These conditions should reflect the government's resolve to combat corruption and abuse of power, as stated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
