I have been using generative AI to prepare lessons for some time now, but it was only when I created a full module of Git and GitHub for my class that I realized how it changes the entire teaching process — not just what happens before the class. It's not about generating ready-made content; my preferred use of AI generative technology in education is an iterative approach.

I describe the curriculum, the student profile, the available time, and I fine-tune everything with the tool. This includes the schedule, theoretical explanations, practical sessions, and activities that truly engage students rather than just filling time. The outcome is not what the AI suggested in its first response. It's what remains after I disagree, ask it to rewrite, and test the logic out loud.

The biggest practical improvements since incorporating AI into my process are testing examples before teaching them. When preparing the Git module, I ran each command in my terminal before bringing it to the class, even intentionally causing errors I knew would arise. The AI was useful not for knowing the answer, but for rapidly simulating scenarios and organizing explanations in a pedagogically meaningful way, not just a technical one.

Generating support material in volume while maintaining a consistent standard has also become much faster once the lesson structure is good — the schedule, type of activity, and presentation tone. Reusing this template for subsequent classes is far quicker with AI assistance than rebuilding everything from scratch. The boundary I set for myself is that I never use material without reviewing it line by line before presenting it to the class.

This applies equally to theoretical content (confirming technical correctness) and practical activities (ensuring they function within the specific time and profile of my class, not a generic one).

AI accelerates production, but the responsibility for what enters the classroom remains solely mine. I believe this should be the case for any teacher using these tools.
