Chinese passenger remanded over wallet theft attempt on flight

BALIK PULAU, Malaysia - A 55-year-old Chinese man has been detained for four days to aid police investigations into an alleged attempt to steal a passenger's wallet during a flight from Jakarta, Indonesia to Penang. Magistrate Chia Huey Ting issued the remand order on the first day, enabling the police to probe the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code, coupled with Section 511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.

The suspect was brought to the court site at 8:40am, accompanied by law enforcement officials. He was apprehended following allegations that he attempted to pilfer a wallet from a fellow passenger during the flight. Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab, the Southwest district police chief, informed that the police received a report about the incident from a 36-year-old Indonesian man yesterday.

According to the report, the event transpired mid-flight when the victim observed a man retrieving his bag from the overhead cabin compartment. It was reported that no losses were incurred as all the victim's items were recovered.
