CDA Plans Double-Decker Electric Bus Service for Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to introduce a double-decker electric bus service in Islamabad, aiming to boost tourism in the city. According to CDA sources, the authority has reached out to Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) to evaluate the feasibility and costs of procuring the electric buses. The initial plan involves running four buses on a 25-kilometer city tour, starting from F-9 Park and passing by prominent tourist sites such as Faisal Mosque, Lok Virsa, and Shakarparian.

The CDA is currently seeking HIT's input, after which they will decide on the next steps. An official from the CDA revealed that if all goes according to plan, the service could be operational within three months. They mentioned that the decision regarding the buses could involve importing them from China. Nonetheless, it is clear that the proposed electric buses will be environmentally friendly.

Currently, the CDA operates an electric bus service through a contractor on more than 20 routes throughout Islamabad, with a fleet of over 160 buses. This service has been well-received by residents, who utilize the buses daily in large numbers. The CDA has also considered introducing a tram service in Islamabad on multiple occasions, but these plans have not yet been implemented.
