Carlsberg Vietnam shows how resource efficiency can shape green industrial growth

Vietnam is striving for net-zero emissions by 2050, which requires industrial growth to become more resource-efficient and adopt circular production models. At the Green Industries Summit 2026, Carlsberg Vietnam showcased how it is integrating these principles into its brewery operations and the broader conditions needed for scaling progress across industry.

The company, led by senior director of Integrated Supply Chain Peter Wachenschwanz, shared its achievements and plans for reducing water and energy usage, as well as advancing circularity and lower-carbon energy. Carlsberg Vietnam's Phu Bai Brewery in Hue, inaugurated in August 2025, expanded its capacity by over 50%, resulting in 20% less water and 15% less energy consumption compared to its predecessor.

The brewery also captures and reuses carbon dioxide generated during fermentation. Additionally, Carlsberg Vietnam has achieved zero waste to landfill at its breweries, implemented efficient brewing technology, heat recovery, and biomass-generated steam. The company is also working towards sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources and establishing direct power purchase agreements.
