Capital Development Authority plans to launch double-decker bus service to promote tourism

In a bid to boost tourism in Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to introduce a double-decker bus service. The CDA recently approached Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) for a feasibility study and cost estimate for procuring the buses. CDA officials revealed that the initial plan is to launch the service with four buses for a 25km city tour, starting from F-9 Park and visiting key locations like Faisal Mosque, Lok Virsa, and Shakarparian.

The CDA is currently liaising with HIT, and they anticipate that the service will be operational within three months if everything proceeds as planned.

HIT is renowned for its expertise in the design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of advanced electric buses, providing sustainable transportation solutions to various public and commercial entities. The official from CDA mentioned that the decision to procure buses from HIT may depend on the recommendations from HIT. It is worth noting that the CDA had previously planned to introduce a tram service in Islamabad but failed to materialize the plan.

The CDA's efforts to enhance urban transportation have gained significant traction, as evidenced by the success of their existing electric bus service. Currently, CDA operates an electric bus service on over 20 routes across Islamabad using a fleet of more than 160 electric buses. This service has been met with overwhelming approval from citizens, as a sizable number of residents utilize these buses daily for their commute.

The CDA's experience with electric buses could be a valuable asset as they move forward with the double-decker bus project.
