British soap star Philip Barry Foster, known for his role in Brookside, has been arrested in Torrevieja, Spain, for his alleged involvement in a €16 million fraud scheme targeting aspiring models. Foster, who was wanted in the UK for eight-and-a-half years over fraud and money laundering, allegedly duped thousands of young people and their families into paying substantial fees for photography services and portfolios.
However, the photographs produced were of poor quality and of little value within the fashion industry. The criminal operation, which ran from 2011 to 2019, involved over 6,000 victims and generated a total fraud amounting to £13.6 million or €16 million. Foster continued directing the scam from Spain, where he was tracked down by the Guardia Civil in Torrevieja. He now faces extradition proceedings and could be returned to the UK to serve his sentence.
