Breaking: Suspected shark attack at Sorrento beach in Perth's north

Emergency services are responding to a potential shark attack incident at Sorrento beach, situated north of Perth. The St John Ambulance WA reported the suspected attack at 10:15 am local time and dispatched three emergency crews, one of which received priority treatment. The beach has been temporarily closed to swimmers, and individuals have been cautioned to exercise caution.

Witness Russell James, who was present at the beach when the shark alarm sounded, informed the ABC that police and ambulances, alongside a helicopter, were seen in the vicinity. He also described people standing by the water's edge near the groyne where surfboards or paddleboards lay. The suspected attack follows the commencement of Surf Lifesaving WA's helicopter shark patrols for the summer season, just a week ago.

Previously, a member of the public reported sighting a shark measuring approximately 2.5 meters off the beach. Sorrento is a favored swimming destination, located roughly 20 kilometers north of the central business district and south of the Hillarys marina, which is home to numerous restaurants and cafes.
